Sue was a gift. I was head of Children's Services at the Newport Public Library and had the gift of working closely with Sue on the Puppet programs she created each summers to engage children and give them their voices. I miss her humor, her passion, her engagement, her energy—her hopefulness. We have never needed them more.

This picture was taken on June 2024 when my colleague David Bernstein and I visited Sue at her house in Newport. We had a lovely lunch and conversation with Sue and her son Michael and were glad to give her this plaque - in appreciation for all that Sue and Jimmy Z"L did for the growth of the Reform Movement in Israel.  Sue than took us on a tour of her Newport and showed us many places she loves and explained about the History of Newport. We felt lucky to have Sue as our tour guide :). Sue was warm, funny and full of life and creative ideas. We will miss her very much!

Dear Michael and the Klau family,
On behalf of the Rabbis, lay leaders, staff and members of the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism, we would like to offer our deepest condolences on your loss.
It is with great sorrow and distress that we have learned about the passing of your mother, Sue.
We feel fortunate to have known Sue, whose compassion, determination and dedication to Jewish values left a lasting mark on many lives. Her dedication to Jewish education was just one of her many incredible contributions. Sue’s butterfly program became a cherished part of what we taught the children and youth in Israeli Reform Judaism. Her memory will continue to live on in every butterfly, symbolizing those we've lost and the legacy she has left behind.
Her sudden death comes as a great shock. In this time of great grief and sorrow, we hope that the cherished memories of Sue will serve as a source of comfort for you and your family.
In the Shkalim Tractate of the Jerusalem Talmud we are told: “We need not erect tombstones for the righteous, for their deeds serve as their memory alone.” 
You are your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

In the mid-1990s, Gerry was a volunteer board facilitator for URJ small congregations.  He was assigned to do a workshop for Sue and Jimmy's congregation in Puerto Rico, and that was where our friendship began.  Although Sue was born and raised in Cincinnati, we did not know her until we met her in Puerto Rico.  We instantly bonded with the Klaus and became part of their "family." We would connect with them at URJ Biennials and in Cincinnati when Sue would come to visit her father who was a member of our congregation, Rockdale Temple.  Because our daughter lives in Boston, we were able to spend the day with Sue and Jimmy for many years in Newport, and even attended "Kamp Klau".  We were so fortunate to visit with Sue last summer in Newport.  She was a true Woman of Valor who was a special part of so many people's lives.  May Sue and Jimmy's memories be for a blessing.

Sue and Jimmy were godparents to our young Congregation ATID in Barcelona. They met us in early 2000s and were strongly involved in the WUPJ Conference in town in 2002.
Their enthusiasm, vitality and energy were so contagious.
We will remember them fondly for their love of people and Judaism and will honor them with a plaque in our Tree of Life.
May their light continue to shine  through the generations.

Sue and I married into the Klau family. We shared a lot and remained friends until her death. I will miss her wit, sincerity, positivity, artistic talents, holiday cards and gifts. She was a one of a kind woman who will always remain in my heart. My condolences to David, Mike, Flippy, Cindy and their families. Her memory will always be a blessing.

The news of Sue’s passing brought back memories of our friendship that will always stay with me   We shared some good moments with her and of course with Jimmy Sue’s beloved husband who was also a dear friend. Both Sue and Jimmy were very helpful in getting our Jewish temple organized. This was our home for all the years we lived in Puerto Rico. I am. thankful for the time I got to know both of them. May their memories be a blessing for you and your family. I will always remember them

Mrs. Klau was a phenomenal woman. I will always have fond memories of her. She was such an inspiration in my life and I’ll never forget  the valuable lessons she taught me.  She will forever remain in our hearts and memories.  Our deepest condolences to the family.
