Mrs. Thelma Rodgers Burcham

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel officiated by The Reverend Lavin J. Burcham, Sr. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.

Thelma was the daughter of Hughes and Melvina Rodgers of Martinsville. She was a retired executive assistant for many high ranking officials at Langley Air Force Base in Langley, VA for over 37 years and was loved by many friends in the Langley area. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time at the beach. She was an avid hockey fan, especially for the Washington Capitals, and many times cooked meals for different teams playing the Hampton Gulls and Hampton Roads Admirals. She also loved football and was a Washington Redskins fan. Mrs. Burcham was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Clyde Rodgers, sister, Midge Nichols and the family dog, Chica.

Those remaining behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen L. Burcham of Greensboro, son, Brian K. Burcham of Hampton, VA, brother, Jimmie Rodgers of Forest Hills, NY, sisters, Nell Rodgers of Atlanta, GA, Rachel Slate (Mrs. Kenneth) of Trinity and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, 1133 19th St. NW, 12th Floor, Washington, DC 20036-3604.

The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
