Thomas William Henricksen (Tom) died on 12 January 2019 in the evening. He was 53 years old. Tom was born in Pittsburg, PA on 27 August 1965, the fourth of five children. His family moved to Greensboro in 1966 and then moved to Tampa, FL in 1971. In 1977, they moved to Jamestown.
Tom attended Ragsdale Senior High School and UNCG, from which he received two degrees: a bachelor's degree in business with a minor in Spanish, and a master's degree in business administration. Tom worked for Greensboro city school administration for several years, specializing in IT, and taught seminars in computer applications for administrators and teachers. He made several close friends while thus employed. Tom also lived in Richmond, VA and Washington, DC, and worked for Circuit City. He later moved to Indianapolis and worked for Comcast Corporation.
Tom met Brant McLendon in 1984; later, they became close friends and lived in a farm in Alamance County for five years. They enjoyed many bonfires with their dogs and the company of visitors and hunters. After 2000, Tom had moved to Indianapolis and returned to Greensboro in 2007. Tom and Brant had good friends while living in the Lindley Park neighborhood, and in 2010, moved to Fisher Park neighborhood, where they established many more great friendships with wonderful neighbors. Tom loved gardening, and Tom and Brant could often be seen tending gardens in the neighborhood. Tom was very intelligent. He could work a crossword or puzzle book like nobody's business! He was clever with language and often challenged spelling and pronunciation. He was fluent in Spanish; he loved to speak a bit of French and German, too. He also loved music and dancing. He was an accomplished swimmer and won many contests as a youth. He also loved trips to the mountains and the coast, where many good times were had. He was an expert rollerblader and talked about passing dozens of cars at 45 miles per hour while living in Richmond, VA.
He is predeceased by his father, his sister Karen, and is survived by his mother and sisters Barbara and Zoe. A friend called yesterday to state that Tom was such a wonderful man, and very bright, and had such a kind soul and spirit, that anyone could feel when they were around him. Amen to that! We love you, Tom.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 1:00pm at First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 617 N. Elm St. in Greensboro. Friends may drop by 106 E. Bessemer Avenue after 6 p.m.
