Thomas Michael “Mike” Hopkins, 74, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Friday August 10, 2018 at his residence surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 27, 1944 in Greenville, SC the son of the late Claude Thomas and Jesse Elvira Locke Hopkins.
Mike was a relay technician with Duke Energy, retiring after 36 years. He then worked with Watana Engineering for over 10 years as a sub-contractor. He attended the University of South Carolina. He enjoyed coaching the youth for many years in basketball and baseball in Summerfield and he enjoyed playing golf. Mike was an active member of the Gate City Lions Club and held many local club offices as well as State Offices for the Lions.
Mike was married for 48 years to Marian Ann Coates Hopkins who preceded him in death on February 10, 2018
He loved being around family and friends. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, Mike is survived by his daughter, Mellnee Ann Hopkins Clodfelter and husband Michael of Mt. Airy; his sister, Martha Rose McNeal of Amissville, VA; grandchildren, Adam Michael Clodfelter and wife Megan of Louisville, KY, Misty Lynn Clodfelter and Amber Noel Clodfelter of Mt. Airy and great grandchildren, Cagney Paige Clodfelter and Noah Michael Clodfelter.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Guilford Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mike’s memory to Camp Dogwood, 7050 Camp Dogwood Dr. Sherrills Ford, NC 28673 to help the visually impaired.
