

Thomas Claude Norman, 91, a resident of Greensboro passed away Sunday February 26, 2012 after a courageous eight month battle with cancer. Tom was born May 10, 1920 in Wilkes County, a son of Thomas Roy and Sarah Denny Norman. A veteran of WW II as a member of the US Army he served in China, Burma and India. In 1947 Tom moved to Greensboro and worked for Cone Mills until retiring in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and took up blacksmithing as a hobby. A musician, he enjoyed playing his guitar and banjo with High Lonesome Strings. Tom was a charter member of Lawndale Baptist Church.
He was married to Dorothy Brower Norman who preceded him in death on April 5, 1990. Tom is survived by his two sons, Gary Thomas Norman (Linda) of Greensboro, James Lee Norman (Belinda) of Mt. Holly; one sister, Faye N. Cornog of Springfield, IL; two brothers, Paul Norman (Jean) of Charlotte, Ben Norman (Melissa) of Ronda; one niece, Susan Norman Eads of Tega Cay, SC; one granddaughter, Sierra Cohen of Mt. Holly, one great-niece, Blair Eads and his longtime companion, Ann Trull of Greensboro.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Marion Boling. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank Beacon Place, the North Hall of Maple Grove Health & Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Jefry Rosen, Dr. Sarah Squire and Dr. Huan Ha for the care given and shown to Tom.
