Tony Lynn Spivey, 60, of Greensboro, died Saturday, December 23, 2023, after years of declining health. Tony was born on June 14, 1963, in Edenton, NC. He was raised in Chowan County and graduated from John A. Holmes High School in 1981. While attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Tony met his partner for life, Karen, whom he married on June 2, 1985, shortly after graduating from UNC. Together they made their home in Greensboro and raised two children. Tony was an Information Technology professional and spent most of his career at Cone Health Systems in Greensboro. Tony was an avid sports fan and followed all the Tar Heel athletic teams attending many football, basketball, baseball, and soccer games over the years. His greatest joy, however, was watching the sports that his daughter, Bethany, took part in from preschool all the way through college and beyond. There were many nights and weekends spent on the sidelines of a soccer pitch passionately and enthusiastically cheering on her and her teammates. Tony left Cone Health in 2016 as his health continued to decline. His new daily routine included long walks in the neighborhoods off Westridge Road. He spent many hours outside, talking with neighbors, listening to his music, and enjoying the companionship of his furry friend, Bella.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Mary Emma Spivey. Surviving Tony are his wife of over 38 years, Karen; children Blake Spivey of the home, Bethany Black (Charles) of Kitty Hawk, NC; a sister Fran Winslow (Mark) of Edenton, NC; a brother Willie Spivey (Tammy) of Richmond VA; mother-in-law Gail Radford of Greensboro, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Carol Radford of Wendell NC; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
