Tula Hughlene Collins, 74, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023. The family will gather with friends Thursday, January 19 from 2-5 p.m., at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street. Born May 3, 1948, in Lenoir County, NC, daughter of the late Hugh and Myrtle Edwards, Hughlene grew up in Greene County, NC graduating from Greene Central High School in 1966 and later she earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Carolina University.
After 38 ½ years of combined faithful service, she retired from Kroger and Harris Teeter as a front end and floral manager. Hughlene enjoyed sharing her life with her late husband Joe, whether it was in the garden or traveling.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Collins. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, James Bishop, Jr. (Kimberly) of Liberty, Kimberly M. Queen (Timothy) of Kernersville, Susan Suits (Dan) of Wilmington; sister, Linda E. Sauls (William) of Havelock; grandchildren, Hagen, Logan, Sarah and Noah Bishop, Cameron and Jordan Queen, Stephen Suits (Austyn) and great grandchildren, Madelyn and Olivia. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Hughlene’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
