Vernon was born in Greensboro to the late John Daniel Keen and Lenora Godwin Keen. He went to work in Keen’s Studio when he was 16 years old. His father started the studio in the early 1900’s. He earned his master’s degree in 1973 in photography. Margaret, his wife, worked along with him and earned her master’s degree in 1978. Photography was his lifelong passion, other than his family and his God.
He was a gracious man with great patience. He was a member of the order of the Freemasons. He loved helping people preserve the most important moments in their life through photography.
He and Margaret dearly loved the beach. In all their travels throughout the years they always wanted to be at the beach. “Ocean front, top floor, king size bed was a must.” They always came home rejuvenated.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Margaret Elizabeth Keen. He is survived by children, Daughters, Saundra Keen Witt and Sheron Ann Durgin; grandsons, Robert E. Grant, Jr., David Moir Grant and Lyn Early Adams, Jr.; great grandchildren, Shayne Alexander Grant, Savannah Marie Grant, Crystal Joy Freeman, Carmen Alexis Grant, Alexander Moir Grant, Lyn Ethan Adams, III and Zoe Rae Adams; great great granddaughter, Bailey Rose Brogan.
