Victor Brian “Pop” Melville, Sr., 74, a resident of Asheboro passed away at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. He was born May 3, 1946 in Rumford, Maine the son of Alexander and Mary Corinne Rowe Melville.
Pop was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Mary Melville Burrough and his brothers, Alexander Melville, Robert Melville and Sammy Melville.
Pop served in the military for 15 years. First with the U.S. Navy (Seabees) where he did two tours of duty in Vietnam and after being discharged he joined the Army National Guard. He was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #38 in Asheboro. He received his Associate Degree in Accounting and Merchandising from Greensboro College. He retired from the City of Greensboro. He was a big part of Melville Motorsports. Known to everyone as “Pop”, he loved to hug people, make them smile and laugh and went out of his way to help everyone, especially his church family at Southeast Church of the Nazarene. He was loved by many and will leave and impact on all that he left behind.
Pop is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Beck Melville; his son, Victor Brian Melville, Jr. of Asheboro; his sisters, Susan M. Ott and husband John of TN, Cheryl M. McKinney and husband John of ME, Florence M. Fitzmorris and husband Mike of NH; sister-in-law, Nancy Moffit and husband Richard of Greensboro; Nick Miller of Asheboro who Pop thought of a son; grandchildren, Angel Holbrook, Jo Jo Holbrook, Brian Melville, Johnny Melville, Kala Cox; great grandchildren, Kylee Rossas, Hayden Holbrook, Gunner Cox and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by Pastor Will Fields. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
