Virginia Bass Bradsher went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Virginia “Ginny” was born March 1, 1937 in Louisburg, North Carolina to late William Roy Bass and Mary Elizabeth Beaty Bass.
She met James Edward Bradsher in Louisburg, NC after he served in the US Navy and was attending Louisburg College. They were married in 1957 after Ed joined Strand, Skees & Jones, a Greensboro accounting firm.
Ginny graduated from Greensboro Women’s College (now University of North Carolina at Greensboro) in 1959 where she received a degree in Home Economics. Upon graduation, she was employed by Duke Energy, educating housewives on electrical appliances and the shift from gas-powered cooking to electric-powered cooking, a new trend.
Once her children were born, she was a stay-at-home Mom and lovingly raised four children. When the youngest reached college, she went back to school for her Masters in Health Education. She worked on various women’s health research studies with the
Bowman Gray School of Medicine, and gladly drove all over the Triad, interviewing women in their homes and gathering the data. She eventually retired – never. Ginny was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, having served as an Elder and a Deacon, and was an active member of her Sunday School class. She served on endless committees and was a fixture in the Church’s Food Service ministry as well as programs such as “Hot Dish and Hope” community meals. Ginny was also a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters Sarah and Elizabeth for many years.
After Ed’s passing, Ginny moved to Abbottswood at Irving Park where several First Presbyterian members reside and attended the worship services streamed by First Presbyterian for the residents
Her second love to her time spent at Church was her gardening. A Certified Master Gardener, she supervised the local community garden plots, maintaining her own three as well. Her family and friends were blessed with a bounty of fresh flowers and fruits. Even
when she could no longer garden, she continued to “supervise” the community garden that provided food for those in need. But more than anything, Ginny loved her family. Her husband Ed was her life-long partner, and they enjoyed spending time with their ten grandchildren over the years. Their children David, Michael, Sarah and Elizabeth were her pride and joy and she loved them all dearly.
Ginny was predeceased by her parents William and Mary Bass, her brothers William, Clarence, Tom, Charlie and James Bass; her sister, Louise Wood and her much-loved son-in-law Chuck Tate.
She is survived by her sons David and his wife Julie, Michael and his wife Lora, and daughters Sarah Bradsher Tate and Elizabeth Bradsher Cannady, as well as her grandchildren Max Bradsher, Taylor Bradsher Meyer and husband David, Berkeley Bradsher Arias and husband Manases, Maddie Bradsher Werkheiser and husband Nate, James Bradsher, Charlie and Sam Tate, and Anderson, Katie and Connor Cannady. She was blessed with the birth of her first great-grandson, Bo David Meyer in January 2026.
Her services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 25 at First Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Elm St. with visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to First Presbyterian Church, Hot Dish and Hope, 617 North Elm St, Greensboro, NC 27401.
