Walter Russell Nelson, 69, a resident of Greensboro passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was born August 13, 1945 in Greensboro, the son of the late John Woodrow Nelson, Sr. and Irene Newman Nelson. He graduated from Sumner High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a former employee with Duke Energy where he served as a supervisor.
Surviving is his two sisters, Judy Lopp of Greensboro and Martha J. N. Darr and her husband Larry of Thomasville.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensboro with the Reverend Kelly Barefoot officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
