The family will receive friends Sunday, June 26 from 1:30 to 2:30 with a funeral service following promptly at 2:30 at Church Street Baptist Church with Pastor Tyler Gaulden officiating. Interment will follow at Lebanon Baptist Church.
Walt was born August 23, 1926, in Flag Pond, TN, son of the late Waldo Emerson and Mary Noland McGee. He proudly served his country while in the United States Army and was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific and Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Metal. He and his family traveled around to many local churches singing gospel hymns. Walt was a volunteer firefighter with McLeansville Fire Department 37 and a member of Church Street Baptist Church.
Walt had an eye for designing and for many years he decorated and designed the Belk store windows downtown Greensboro at Christmas, designed lamps for Dunning Industries and many of the showrooms for the High Point Furniture Market.
In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae McGee; daughters, Linda Ollivier, Kathy Pruitt; great granddaughter, Brittany Dever and his brother, Noland McGee. He is survived by his daughters, Terrie Lyon and husband, Joey, Tammy Doans and husband, Richard; son-in-law, Doug Pruitt; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Nona Mae Shatley and brother, Tommy McGee.
