

A memorial service celebrating Wayne’s life will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W. Gate city Blvd., in Greensboro, with Rev. David Greene officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
Wayne was born in Kansas City, MO to the late Robert and Myrtle Strickland and was a graduate from Smith High School in Greensboro. He was employed with Harland Check Printing for several years and then became a District Manager at Greensboro News and Record for over 20 years. While working, Wayne was a volunteer for the Fun Fourth Organization, arranging the craft shows held downtown. He also worked with the local United Way. After retirement, he continued to volunteer with the Red Cross and Wesley Long Hospital. Carolina Tarheels was Wayne’s #1 passion, especially basketball. He was a lifelong NFL Redskins fan until NC developed their own team, The Carolina Panthers. Wayne was an avid bowler until his health declined. He enjoyed wildlife, beach trips and a pretty sunset. Wayne was a gentle giant to the grandkids, always kind, loving, and teasing. All pets gravitated to his sweet nature. He will be dearly missed and loved always. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a nephew, Todd Clegg.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 29 years, Faye Strickland of Jamestown; step-son, Eric Butler (Dr. Tanya Pratt); step-grandchildren, Elena, Nicholas, Steven, Matthew and Michael Butler, all of Greensboro; sister, Joyce Clegg (Al) of Greensboro; nephew, Jason Clegg (Amy); brother, Jack Strickland (Linda) of Julian; nephew, Jamie; niece, Susan, both of Greensboro; and other extended family and friends.
