Lori was born to the late Marion O. and Will Mae Hunt Brooks on February 8th, 1960 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Lori is survived by her three children: Matthew Johnson (wife, Jessica) of Kernersville, NC; Christopher Johnson (wife, Abby) of Summerfield, NC; and Kendal Davis (husband, Brian) of Winston-Salem, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren (Alexandra, Trizton, Chloe, Dylan, Jackson, McKenna, Avery, Grayson and Harper), two great grandchildren (Donavan and Adrienne) and her brother, Marion Odell Brooks, Jr. "Manny" (wife Carolyn) of Rock Hill, SC .
It would be wrong to say that Lori lost her battle, because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick the cancer made her, she was always determined. We know what resilience and perseverance truly look like, because of her willingness to fight. There was no quit in Lori. She had a vivacious personality and always made everyone around her laugh.
When Lori had her first child, Matthew, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Lori excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of our family. She was an excellent nurturer and always knew the right thing to say. She never missed a special date and was always there to cheer on her children, whether it be sporting events, dance recitals, or any life accomplishment at the time. Lori was a constant cheerleader and supporter.
Lori truly loved her role as Nana. She was very devoted to her grandchildren, and loved working with all children. Lori was a dedicated teacher at Centenary UMC and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Lori was passionate about Pilgrimage. She had been involved since 1998. She had served on many teams where she gave her time and talents and surprised many with her love and gifts. Through Pilgrimage she met her “sistahs”, who are the light of her life. Her time with her “sistahs” reunion group was some of the best times and most memorable of her life. Lori was also involved with the youth movement, ARISE. She never held back her love for others, by serving others with the love of Christ.
Celebration of Life will be held at Centenary UMC in Greensboro on Saturday, October 7th at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church in the fellowship hall. Lori requested that everyone wear bright colors. No black, please.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Carolina Presbyterian Pilgrimage can be made in Lori’s name.
