Mr. William Reynold Allen III, 75, of 1614 Saint Francis Road, Greensboro, NC, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 in the Arboretum at Heritage Greens due to a rare brain tumor.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday August 2, 2014 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, with a musical prelude beginning at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends and family at their home after the service.
Bill was born January 20, 1939, in Richmond, Virginia to the late Elizabeth Roper and William Reynold Allen, Jr. He grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina and graduated from Goldsboro High School. Bill went on to receive both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma and Phi Eta Sigma Fraternities. He was an avid sports fan and his heart and allegiance will always remain in Chapel Hill.
After practicing law for a few years with Poyner, Geraghty, Hartsfield and Townsend in Raleigh, North Carolina, Bill moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to join the legal department of American Credit. Shortly thereafter, he moved again to join the legal department of Blue Bell Inc. in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he remained until they were bought out by VF. At this point, he changed career paths and obtained his mortgage bankers license. He took pleasure in interacting with people and being able to help them overcome difficult financial situations. He was active in this business for decades until shortly before his death.
Bill belonged to and was active in the Educational Foundation in Chapel Hill, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, YMCA, Real Estate Investors Association, The Greensboro Country Club and The Coral Bay Club.
He is survived by his devoted wife of forty-six years, Margaret Pannill Allen (“Margie”) and two children; daughter, Elizabeth Cabell Allen Lambeth and her husband Walter Crawford Lambeth; and son, William Reynold Allen IV.
The family deeply appreciates the loving care he received from his caregivers Charlene Graves, Gloria Bowden, Lamar LeGrand, Vivian Roberson, Tabitha Jones and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
