William "Kent" Apple

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407, with the Rev. Dr. Jay Smith officiating. Kent will be laid to rest in Guilford Memorial Park, next to his late son, Will, immediately following the service.

Kent was born on March 28, 1940, to the late William Avery Apple and Sarah Weaver Apple. He graduated from Greensboro Senior High School and attended Guilford College. Kent served in the National Guard for a number of years. He worked as an Auditor and Inventory Controller in the food, manufacturing and pharmaceutical fields. He also worked at H & R Block during tax season. Kent was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, William (Will) Ashley Apple; a sister, Sarah “Sally” Apple Hodge and a brother, Robert “Bobby” Apple.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 57 years, Claudia “Corkie” Huckabee Apple; sister, Cynthia Apple Morgan; many nieces and nephews; his brothers-in-law (whom he considered to be true brothers), Dan Huckabee (Carol) and David Huckabee (Donna); and, his late son’s fiancée, Allison Martin.

In lieu of flowers, and because of Kent’s love for animals, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to any animal rescue organization or to the charity of one’s choice.
