
William H. “Bill” Turk, 95, passed away on Sunday, November 8th, 2015 at Hospice Home Alamance-Caswell. A fighter to the end, he was surrounded by family at his death. Entombment will be Wednesday November 11th, 2015 at Alamance Memorial Park.
He was the son of the late Emmett Little Turk and Gertrude Parker Turk. A native of Birmingham, Alabama and a Greensboro resident since 1966, Bill rode the rails during the great depression and then joined the US Marine Corps. During WWII, he served four years in the Pacific theater including extensive time as a POW. He married Wilma Louise Henry in 1946. Bill worked for the Internal Revenue Service where he obtained a law degree and retired as Conferee of the Appellate Division. He then operated his own moving business that specialized in transporting antique furniture.
He was preceded in death by Wilma Louise, his wife of 62 years, five brothers, Leonard, Harry, Richard, Emmett, and Everett and two sisters, Lillian Hankins and Maurine Upshaw. He was the last of his generation.
Bill and Louise are survived by five children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; sons, Marten Turk of Columbus, Ga, Richard Turk, and Joseph Turk of Pittsburgh, PA; daughters, Susan Turk Amick (husband David) of Evans, Ga and Jill Brinkley (husband Ed) of Gibsonville, NC. Grandchildren are Bill Turk, Richard Turk, Daniel Amick, Diana Ruggiero (husband Dan and son Grant), Caitlin Amick, Travis Turk (wife Sara), Mary Joe Turk, Molly Turk and Claire Brinkley.
