William David Mauldin, 88, of Greensboro, passed away May 8, 2025 at Moses Cone Hospital. His life will be celebrated at 2 PM, Tuesday, May 13 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel followed by interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive guests prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 12 PM.
Bill was born in Guilford County to the late Hubert Dewitt and Lillie Hyams Mauldin. He graduated from Greensboro Sr. High School and attended Guilford College and later graduated from a broadcasting scholarship program at University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill.
While serving the US Air Force, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Peggy, and they had two children. They moved back and forth several times between Florida and North Carolina as he flew for National Airline, Pan AM and Delta. He eventually retired after 32 years with the rank of Captain. He was also an accomplished Ham Radio operator. Bill continued working with a very successful career as the owner of William Mauldin Productions, Inc., a state of the art sound and production company. He returned to his roots as he had started in broadcasting at the age of fourteen at an ABC affiliate WCOG, in Greensboro, as a teen DJ with an afternoon radio program. He was the voice for many national companies for commercials and training materials. In addition to being a well known radio voice for half a century and producer Wiliam was also an author of five books.
He is survived by his daughter, Kendra Mauldin Scalese and husband Tom and son, William “David” Mauldin, Jr. and wife Bethanne; sister, Ann “Dale” Martin and husband Bob; and grandson, Benjamin David Mauldin. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret “Peggy” Mauldin and his constant canine companion, Tango.
