He was born September 15, 1927 in High Point, NC to the late William Odell Younger, Sr. and Helen Weant Younger. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army Air Corp. He graduated from High Point College with a BS in Chemistry. He was a Technical Director for over thirty years for DeSoto Inc. which became part of Sherwin Williams Inc.
Bill was a member of Lawndale Baptist Church and the Rotary Club. He was a very private man that lived a quiet peaceful life. He demonstrated for and to us faithful service, honesty when no-one was watching, perseverance to finish the task, and endurance during time of trial. His “yes” meant “yes” and “no” meant “no” and when he gave his word, he kept it. He loved his family and he proved it through his actions. He cared nothing for the world’s praises or accolades, and did what Scripture says is right in the sight of the Lord (his Savior: Jesus Christ). During his final years he spent his time in the renewing of his mind with Scripture as his body began to fail. We are grateful to have had this time together with him and look forward to seeing him again. 1 Thess. 4:13-18.
William is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hazel Osborne Younger, son Geoffrey Younger and his wife Cher of Port Republic, VA; two grandchildren Abigail and Joseph Younger.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Lawndale Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Curt Dean officiating. There will be a private interment at Guilford Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lawndale Baptist Church in memory of William. The family would like to express appreciation to the team of doctors and nurses at Wesley Long for their outstanding care extended to William during his final days on earth.
