Chester Eugene Mattick

November 23, 1931April 6, 2021

Chester Eugene Mattick was born on November 23rd, 1931, Gene was the first born of Mary Esther (Flanagan) and Herman Frederick Mattick. Gene passed away on Tuesday, April 6th, 2021. Gene was raised in Mt. Comfort. In his youth, he worked for the same dairy as his father. Gene left Mt. Comfort High School to enlist in the Navy. He obtained his high school diploma while stationed in San Diego. Gene married briefly and had one daughter, Donna, with his ex-wife, Jane. After his enlistment term ended, He travelled all across the United States and Canada many times. Eventually settling into life on a ranch, enrolling as a student at Los Alamos College to obtain a teaching degree. While out west, he met and married Erlene Rankin Mattick. Gene and Erlene relocated to her hometown of Eugene, Oregon. They welcomed the birth of their daughter, Teresa Elaine Mattick. Gene remained in Oregon until Erlene's death from Type 1 diabetes. Gene and his daughter, Teresa relocated to Indiana in the mid 70's. Gene eventually married Victoria Lynn Gray, together they shared three children, Amanda, Jess and Michelle. Gene and Vicki enjoyed 40 years of marriage and celebrated many grandchildren along the way. Eighty nine years is a very long time. Gene learned many occupations, gained many hobbies, and had so many adventures along the way. Over the years, he lost many that he loved, including his parents, his wife Erlene and their daughter, Teresa Elaine, as well as their grandson, Joshua Mark. As well as his nephew, Mark Mattick. His sister, N. June Neeb, brother in law, Robert Neeb. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Victoria. His brother and sister in law, Jess and Barbara Mattick. Gene's children and their spouses: Adam and Michelle Derosette, Jess and Tiffany Mattick, Nick and Amanda Fortner, Donna Mattick Polen, 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many cherished nephews and nieces. For those that knew Gene, they know that the blooming seasons were his favorite, his family is forever grateful that he lived to see another spring, one more year's blossoms. We humbly ask in lieu of delivery flowers, plant a blooming tree of any variety, as these were Gene's favorite. Donations to the Disabled American Veterans organization are also greatly appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 25th at the home of Jess and Barbara Mattick, the Mattick Homestead in Mt Comfort.
