Born March 17, 1956, in Huntington, Indiana, Connie was the daughter of Eldon and Irma (Harvey) Campbell. She was raised in Huntington County and graduated from Huntington North High School in 1974. A 10-year 4-H member and Jr. Leader, Connie developed an early passion for service that she carried throughout her life. After high school, she moved to Indianapolis and worked at the Marion County Purdue Extension Office, where she joined Rural Youth and met the love of her life, Richard Fruchtnicht. They were married on April 16, 1978, at Union Church in Huntington.
Connie dedicated 43 years to North Decatur Elementary School as secretary, becoming a trusted and caring presence for generations of students and staff. She also shared her musical talents by accompanying North Decatur High School choirs and playing for school musicals.
Deeply involved in her community, Connie was a member of the Clinton Club Home Economics Club since 1980, serving in multiple leadership roles and receiving a Certificate of Distinction in 2005 as well as being named Decatur County Homemaker of the Year in 2010. She was a 4-H leader for more than 25 years, especially enjoying her role with the Decatur County Jr. Leaders. Connie was also a devoted member of AOA Alpha Omega Sorority, where she built lifelong friendships through years of service and leadership.
A faithful member of Springhill Presbyterian Church since 1980, Connie served as church organist for many years, led Sunday School classes, and was active in Springhill Presbyterian Women. Her faith was evident not only in her music, but in her kindness and quiet devotion to others.
Connie and Richard shared a love of travel—visiting Florida, Alaska, France, and many destinations across the country—as well as simple joys at home, working side by side preserving the harvest and building a life grounded in love.
Connie is survived by her husband, Richard Fruchtnicht; daughters Lacey (Paul) Cunningham and April (Ron) Linville; and grandchildren Jocelyn Cunningham, Ellie Linville, and Emmitt Linville. She is also survived by her sister Joyce (Allen) Williams; brothers- and sisters-in-law Kenneth Fruchtnicht, Danny (Joni) Fruchtnicht, and Ruth (John) Conner; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Irma Campbell, and her sister, Carol Campbell.
A visitation will be held at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Monday April 27, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday April 28, 2026 at 10:00 am, also at the funeral home, with Rev. Jerran Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Kingston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Decatur County 4-H, Pancreatic (American) Cancer Society or to the church of your choice.
