

Donald L. Mathews, 83 of Greensburg, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at his residence. Donald was born on October 29, 1933 in Fayette County, the son of Farrell and Mary (Burch) Mathews. Don was a 1953 graduate of the Clarksburg High School. On January 23, 1954, he married Gwyndlene “Gwen” Artmeier in Clarksburg and she survives.
Other survivors include his three daughters – Mary Kaye (Lynn) Halterman of Carolina Beach, NC, Kim (Dwight) Buttery of Liberty, IN and Dawn (Richard) Cooper of Greensburg; three brothers – Phillip Paul, Everett and Charles Mathews, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother Lizzie Metcalf-Mathews and three brothers – George, Chris and Gene Mathews.
Don worked for many years at Philco Ford and then later worked at Kramer’s Feed Mill. Don was the ultimate handy man, there was very little he could not do or fix. He enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and loved carpentry work; he especially liked working with cherry and oak woods.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017, from 4PM – 8PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:30AM on Tuesday, March 7 also at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Hafenbreidel officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
