Donald W. Whipple, 83 of Greensburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2019. Don was born on March 24, 1936 in Greensburg, the son of Wayne and Marie (Robbins) Whipple. He was a 1954 graduate of Greensburg High School. He married Janet Hazelbaker on June 2, 1957 in Milroy and she preceded him in death on April 6, 2016.
Survivors include his daughter Lisa (Roger) Witkemper of New Vienna, OH, his son Kevin Whipple of Greensburg, five grandchildren – Lynn (Phil) Hart, Keri Scudder, Ryan, Tessa and Nate Witkemper and two great grandchildren - Macy and Miley Scudder. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet and his daughter-in-law Carol Whipple.
Don worked at REMC in Public Relations/ Member Services for nearly 30 years. He was a Mason, Scottish Rite, Order of the Eastern Star, Reserve Deputy for the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department for more than 30 years, past member and president of the Chamber of Commerce, he served on County Council in Decatur County and was most recently on the Aviation Board advocating the airport expansion project.
Private services will be held for the family. Burial will be at the South Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com.
