

Edward DePrez Dodds, 89 of Greensburg, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg. Ed was born in Shelbyville on January 25, 1927, the son of Amos and Florence (Kanouse) Dodds. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1945 and joined the U.S. Army the same month, serving during the end of WWII. On June 29, 1947, he married Virginia Nelson in Greensburg at First Christian Church and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughter Karen (Bob) Sluder, his son Michael (Shirley) Dodds, three grandchildren – Michael (Stormy) Wilson, Dustin (Traci) Dodds and Erin Dodds and three great grandchildren – Mazey Wilson and Ashton and Allie Dodds. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Kenneth Kanouse and Rollin Dodds.
Ed worked as a Masonry Brick Layer for more than 50 years, many of those years with Bruns & Gutzwiller. He was 60+ year member of the First Christian Church where he served as Trustee and Deacon for many years. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, Murat Shrines and the Brick Layers Union #4. He enjoyed traveling and driving for the Shrine Hospital transport for children.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 4PM – 7PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30 beginning at 11AM also at the funeral home with Rev. Danny Wolford officiation. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery with military graveside honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, Our Hospice, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or American Diabetes Association.
