Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Parker Reed, 89, of Greensburg, passed away on December 21, 2020 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 2, 1931 in Decatur County, the daughter of Robert and Mary Moore Parker. Liz was a 1949 graduate of Burney High School. Growing up, she was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church, but has been a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church since 1956.
On September 11, 1955 she married Stanley Reed. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2010. Together they had three children; Jan (John) Proctor, Morristown, IN, Mark Reed and Brenda Reed, both of Greensburg. They also had two grandchildren; Matthew Hanmer, Greensburg, and Ashley (Brody) Hanson, Fort Worth, TX. One step-granddaughter; Megan (Randy) Phares, New Palestine, IN. One great-granddaughter; Harper Grace Hanson and two step-great grandchildren; Ella and Ryker Phares; Liz is survived by her sister; Barbara Smiley, three sister-in-laws; Roberta Hartwell, Carolyn McBride and Billie (Jerry) Williams, and several nieces and nephews who were very special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother; Howard Parker, sisters; Martha Tuttle, Polly McCreary and Cora Parker.
After graduation, she worked as a secretary at Greensburg Daily News, Thurston’s Implement & Supply, and in 1979 joined her husband as co-owners of Reed Insurance Agency until their retirement in 1996.
Family was very important to her and she always cherished any type of family gathering. She was a very devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed boating, golfing, playing cards and spending time with friends. She especially enjoyed the time the “Parker Sisters” spent together. She was an avid basketball fan, especially IU and Purdue. She was a volunteer at the Decatur County Historical Society.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral at 2:00 pm. All visitors will have to wear a mask and observe social distancing, all public visitation guidelines are subject to change based on current Board of Health restrictions. Rev. Jerran Jackson will be officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Our Hospice of Decatur County and Greensburg United Methodist Church.
