

H. Gayle Coombs, 91, of Greensburg passed away on May 15, 2014 at Morning Breeze. He was born on September 2, 1922 in Carroll County, Kentucky, the son of John and Ina Coombs. Gayle was a 1942 graduate of Bedford High School. He married Mary Hubbard on March 1, 1950 in Laurel, Indiana. Gayle was a United States Army Veteran serving during the WWII. He worked as a Farmer and retired after 37 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, VFW #5584, Senior Citizens, American Legion Post 129, and a charter member of the Kiwanis of Westport.
Survivors include: Wife- Mary Coombs of Greensburg, Daughter- Brenda (Fred) Clark of Greensburg, Son- Roger (Mary) Coombs of Noblesville, Sister- Bernice Rice of Fishers, Brothers- Mitchell (Betty) Coombs of Cumming, GA and John (Faith) Coombs of Westport, 4 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild. Preceded in death by: Parents, Sisters- Martha Cooper and Marguerite Caldwell.
A visitation will be held for family and friends at the Gilliland Howe Funeral Home on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 1:00 pm until the time of the Funeral at 3:00 pm. Rev. David Thompson will be officiating. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery.
