Helen Valedia Parker

Helen Valedia Parker, 86, Greensburg, IN passed away Monday July 16th at Morning Breeze Nursing Home following a short illness. She was born November 29, 1931 in Sardinia, Indiana, the daughter of William Eli (Joe) Bake and Dorotha (Beesley) Bake. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1949 as valedictorian. She worked at the Indiana State Highway Dept in Indianapolis, the Decatur County Memorial Hospital, and retired from Union Bank & Trust Company as Trust Officer after 28 years. She was a Past President of the Decatur County extension Homemakers Club. She was a member of the Kitchen Kookies Extension Homemakers Club since 1953. Helen was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church where she was Organist for 68 years up until her recent illness. She married Thomas E Parker on October 20, 1950. Survivors include her husband of 67+ years Thomas E Parker, Greensburg; two daughters Melody (Alan) Hefner of West Lafayette, Jane Parker of Greensburg; one son Thomas (Rose) W Parker, Greensburg; six grandchildren : Jennifer (Joe) Rennekamp, Brian (Margaret) Hefner, Melinda (Charlie) Raab, Anne (Greg) Biever, Karen (Andy) Fisse, Christopher (Valorie) Parker; and 23 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday 5:30-7:30pm at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with funeral services Friday at 10am with Rev. David Blazier officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. I just found out that Helen recently passed away. As a second cousin and growing up together I have many fond memories of our childhood and sharing holidays and family dinners. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
