James Albert Meyer, 75, of Greensburg passed away on January 9, 2021 surrounded by his family. Jim was born on April 13, 1945 in Batesville, Indiana, the son of Edward and Leora (Wullner) Meyer. He grew up on a farm the youngest of five children. He loved hunting and fishing with his father, and as a young man, he was a 4H member and enjoyed showing pigs at the Ripley County Fair, where he received many ribbons. Jim attended Batesville Grade School, where he met many of his lifelong friends. He graduated from Batesville High School in 1963 while working at Becker’s Filling Station. On April 24, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart Sharon Abbott, and they remained together for 55 years, raising two sons, Stacy and Bryan, who were Jim’s pride and joy. He always had time for and enjoyed every minute he could spend with them, continuing into their adulthoods. After graduation, Jim went to work for Cummins and retired in 2002 after 39 years, allowing him more time with his three granddaughters, whom he adored. He was a special husband, father, and papa. Jim is survived by his wife Sharon Meyer of Greensburg; sons Stacy (Jennie) Meyer of Greensburg and Bryan (Audris) Meyer of Wilmington, Delaware; grandchildren Ashlynn Meyer, Bailey Meyer, and Olivia Meyer; sister Margie (Mervin) Ahrens; and sister-in-law Ernestine Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert (Wilma) Meyer, Kenny (Carol) Meyer and Marvin Meyer. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. All visitors are required to wear a mask and observe social distancing, and all public visitation guidelines are subject to change based on current Board of Health restrictions. A funeral service officiated by Rev. Jack E. Dixon will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11:00 am, also broadcast live on the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home Facebook page. A private burial will follow at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Napoleon. Memorial contributions can be made directly to the family, for a future memorial.
