

Norman G. Witkemper, 91 of Greensburg, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Aspen Place Health Campus. Norman was born on November 28, 1924 in Millhousen, the youngest son of George and Ida (Henniger) Witkemper. On March 2, 1946, Norman married Lillian Hadler in Millhousen and she preceded him in death on September 27, 2001, after 55 years of marriage.
Norman was a WWII Army veteran, having served under General George Patton in the 79th Infantry Division of the US Army, Company B. He served as a medic and was awarded the Purple Heart, having been wounded in France.
He retired from Public Service Indiana (Cinergy) in 1983 as Superintendent of the Greensburg office. Norman enjoyed playing golf until the age of 85 and was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.
He leaves behind two daughters – Norma Jeanne (Gary) Swegman of Greensburg and Emily (Jim) Gladden of Scottsburg, two sons – Roger (Lisa) Witkemper of New Vienna, Ohio and Danny Witkemper of Connersville, eight grandchildren – Pam Anderson, Melissa Merriman, Dan Witkemper II, Greg Witkemper, Heather Lewis, Ryan Witkemper, Tessa Witkemper and Nate Witkemper and eight great grandchildren – Luke, Logan, Jacob, Kristen, Jenna, Kate, Cooper, and Xavier. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Maurice Witkemper, and five sisters – Marie Tiffany, Leona Howell, Ada Wasserman, Verna Derrick and Marcella Kissing.
A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at 3:30PM with visitation following from 4PM – 7PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 22 at 10AM at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. John Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors.
