Obituary of Phyllis A. Schwering
Phyllis A. Schwering, 84, of Greensburg, passed away on February 2, 2024. She was born on May 21, 1939 in Greensburg, the daughter of Carl H. and Mildred N. (Powell) Hardebeck. Phyllis was a 1957 graduate of Greensburg High School. She married Samuel Schwering on October 22, 1958 and together they had four sons, Gary, Stephen, John and Michael. Phyllis worked at BCA/NTN for 35 years and was a cook for the Decatur County Jail for 15 years before she retired. Phyllis was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the St. Mary’s Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved shopping. Survivors include her Companion, Jim Campbell; Sons, Stephen (Joseph Marcellino) Schwering and Michael Schwering; Honorary Daughter, Susan Black; Grandchildren, Erica (Brandon) Lay, Justin Schwering and Kyle Schwering; and Great Granddaughter, Harper Lay. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband, Samuel Schwering; Sons, Gary Schwering and John Schwering; Brothers, Charles “Sam” Hardebeck and Robert “Joe” Hardebeck; and Sisters, Donna Sue Allen and Margaret “Annie” Laudick. Family and Friends are invited to pray the rosary with the family, Friday, February 9, 2024 at 9:00 am at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A reception style (no line) visitation will follow until the time of the funeral Mass at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
