

Virginia Mae Pitts, 90, Tampa, Florida, passed away on March 11, 2016 after a short illness. She was born February 2, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Everett and Theresa Wenning Hunter. After graduation from Marion College in Indianapolis with a bachelor’s degree in history, she moved to Greenburg where she worked for Production Credit. On November 23, 1950, she married Meril Pitts at Zion United Methodist Church. They owned and operated a dairy farm, and raised their family near Millhousen until moving to Auburndale, Florida in August 1970.
She was preceded in death by their son, Carson, in July 1975 and her husband on September 2, 1993. She lived with her daughter Nora and the cats in Tampa until her death. Survivors include daughters Charmaine (Robert) Godwin, Nora Pitts and Myrna (Robert) Welsh, grandchildren Tristan Brown, Nathan Brown, Virginia Brown and Rebecca Godwin, and one great-granddaughter, Savannah Dixie Jean Rice. All reside in Florida except Tristan who lives in Washington.
Visitation for family and friends will take place at Zion United Methodist Church on Wednesday March 16, 2016 from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11:30 am. Fellowship at the church will follow the funeral service. Her nephew, Rev. Dennis Hadler, will officiate. Burial will follow at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
