

Willena F. Gookins, 93, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the Decatur County Hospital. Willena was born on December 17, 1921, in Vincent, Kentucky, the daughter of Andrew and Mary Venable. On December 31, 1938, Willena married Donald Gookins in Greensburg and he preceded her in death on August 26, 2000.
Willena worked as a district trainer for 7/11 stations where she trained the store clerks. She volunteered for the Red Cross and was very active in her Nazarene faith and was a former Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and especially enjoyed camping.
Survivors include her two daughters Donna DeWyer and Gail England both of Greensburg, two sisters – Marjorie Scalf and Phyllis Gill, one brother Russell Venable, six grandchildren – Donald Hansard, Lynda DeWyer, Laura DeWyer, Stephen Aderholdt, Maria Erwin, and Jason Richardson, 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don and eight brothers and sisters.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 from 4PM – 7PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Willena’s Funeral Service will begin at 10:30AM on Tuesday, April 14 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the St. John’s Cemetery in Napoleon. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Living Stones Christian Fellowship.
