Barbara Joyce Bevins

Barbara Joyce (Hollinger) Bevins age 85, of Greenville and formally of New Madison passed away at 9:30 pm on Wednesday April 21, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Barbara was born on September 6,1935 to the late Herbert S. and M. Evelyn (Murphy) Hollinger. In addition to her parents, Barbara was proceeded in death by her infant brother Billy Joe Hollinger.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years Charles V. Bevins. She married Charles, the love of her life on February 12, 1956. They had 3 children, Vickie and her husband Jeff Tuttle of Leesburg Florida, Karen and her husband Benny Bierly of New Madison, Carol and her husband Chris Pearson of New Madison. Her grandchildren, Athena Tuttle, James "Andy" Tuttle, Amos (Tiera) Tuttle, Benny (Ashley) Bierly II, Matthew Bierly, Heather (Josh) Derksen, Troy (Samantha) Pearson, Casey (Roxanne) Pearson; 18 great grandchildren. Her brother and sister-in-law Ted (Vickie) Hollinger of Morrow, her sister and brother-in-law Wilma Jean (Joe) Jenkinson of Greenville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a homemaker; she made a career out of loving and taking care of her family. Barbara was a 1953 Graduate of Westmont High School in Holllansburg Ohio. She enjoyed sewing, making a lot of the clothes for her family. She also made quilts for each of her girls. Later that love turned to Cross Stitch projects which she enjoyed entering in the Darke County Fair, receiving numerous ribbons. Barbara also enjoyed gardening which was evident by the beautiful flower garden in their yard, and the pantry full of canned vegetables that she grew in their garden. Barbara loved spending time with her family. Summertime brought the 3 grandkids from Florida, they stayed for the summer and it wasn't uncommon to find all 8 of the grandkids running around their house. You could also find her at their various sporting events cheering them on. She also enjoyed going to numerous festivals selling Sno-Cones and Ice Cream out of their Trailer. She loved making homemade ice cream for family gatherings. Barbara also enjoyed rooting for their favorite pro and college teams, the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State Buckeyes. You could often find them together watching them on TV or listening to them on the radio. Barbara was a member of the Beech Grove Church of the Brethren Hollansburg Ohio, where she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship, the Young at Hearts, and various committees.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 18, 2021, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beech Grove Church of the Brethren.

Barbara was a lovely person who I remember from church with great fondness. My condolences to her family. I know she will be greatly missed.
