

Carl Richard Strobel, age 87, of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on July 2, 2026. He was born July 14, 1938, in Gettysburg, Ohio to Louis and Izora Strobel.
Carl was an active Darke County citizen for his entire life. He grew up in Gettysburg and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1956. During his high school years, he played baseball, basketball and ran track. He attended Ohio State University for two years after high school. He then returned to Darke County to marry the love of his life, Betty Beisner on November 25, 1960, whom he was married to for over 37 years.
He is survived by his four children, Brian (and Catherine), Brent (and Debbie), Bruce (and Maria) and Carla (Mike Walker), his 12 grandchildren (Sophia Strobel and Austin Strobel), (Brooke Strobel, Bryce Strobel and Derek Strobel), (Nicholle Strobel, Stacey (and Hunter White), Tiffany Strobel and Katie Strobel (and friend Ty McDonald) and (Josh Kenworthy (Sarah), Celeste Carver (Alex), and Shania Kenworthy) and step-grandchildren Isiah Loftis (Emma), Bayleigh (and Matt Kurtz) and Ashlee Walker.
He also has 6 great grand-children – (Brooklyn and Deluca Genovesi), Matilda Kenworthy, (Molly and Koe Carver), and Cambree Kenworthy and step-great-grandchild Copeland Loftis. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Delores Beisner, Jacquiline Beisner, and Judith Strobel and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, and his siblings.
Carl was well known for starting and operating Carl R. Strobel Construction for over 50 years, where he had the privilege to work for many of the citizens of Darke County. He was also a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Greenville. He was an avid bowler (inducted into the Darke County Bowling Hall of Fame in 1996), was a member of the Treaty Squares Dancing Club, and Swinging 8’s Dance Club, Church Dartball, and softball. He also exhibited at the Great Darke County Fair for many years and was a 4-H advisor. Most people that knew him also enjoyed his love of history and his humor – always having a joke and trying to brighten someone’s day.
A service will be held on Wednesday July 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 7418 State Route 121, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Alliyah Blakeley officiating with internment at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Greenville. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday July 7, 2026, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio and from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the church.
