

Charles Edward Shell of Greenville, OH, a loving father and devoted husband peacefully passed away Sunday June 9, 2024 at the Village Green in Greenville, Ohio. Charles was born on June 10, 1937, in Darke County, Ohio. Charles was 86 years old. Charles was the seventh child born to the late John William Shell and Ruth Irene (Shinn) Shell.
Charles retired from the Department of Agriculture for the State of Ohio in 1986. Charles was a Registered Environmental Health Specialist. His favorite role was being a father and a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren. He was always there to offer his love, support and encouragement. He loved attending their sporting events, dance recitals and spoiling them with ice cream and cookies for breakfast on numerous occasions.
Charles was a member of the Greenville Veterans of Foreign War, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Charles will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will remember him for his kind heart, and generosity. He was a family man and always put the needs of others before his own.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents: his siblings Betty Louise Shell- Wagner, Mary Elizabeth Shell, Ruby Irene Shell- Holland, John Clarkson Shell, Emerson E. Shell, and Sharon Kay Shell: a daughter Diane Shell.
Charles is survived by his wife, Lucille Marie (Beutler) Shell, married on May 25, 1963: his children Debra Sue (Tom) Gunckle of Greenville, Tracy (Theresa) Shell of Columbus, and Tina (Michael) Hauberg of Greenville: his grandchildren Ron (Mari) Gunckle of South Korea, Zachery (Shar) Shell of Columbus, Emily Shell of Columbus, Megan (Olivia) Resor, Randy (Leigha) Gunckle of Greenville, Savannah (Kyle) Agne of North Carolina, Sajoel Hauberg, Reagan Shell, Isaiah Shell, Kate Shell, Emily Brewer: great-grandchildren Jannin Reyes Gunckle, Nathan Gunckle, Liam Debord, Lucille Resor, and Waylon Brewer.
Friends may call on the family on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 10 AM with Pastor Keith Mentor presiding. Burial to follow at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.
