He is survived by his loving wife Betty, sons Chad and Josh (Megan), his father Gerald, brother Rick, and grandchildren Chloe (21), Emma (18), Carson (17), Adelyn (14), Ethan (11), Garrison (9), Gweneth (8), and Tyrus (5). Dave was predeceased by his mother Hazel "Virginia" and his granddaughter Ava. Dave and Betty met in Marietta, Ohio, in 1976, and were unconditionally at each other's sides for the next 47 years. His family was everything to him, and he embraced every opportunity to enjoy them.
Dave began working at Harts department store in high school. In 1981, he was transferred to Greenville to be a store manager, and after 24 years he moved on to CVS where he would retire in 2013. He began officiating high school sports in 1992, sharing his passion for amateur athletics throughout baseball, basketball, football and volleyball. He was an avid supporter of Greenville High School, and served as a baseball coach for the high school from 2002-2007. He was a long-time member and officer of the Darke County Umpire's Association. He could always be found volunteering at a scorer's table, announcing from the press box, or viewing from the absolute top row of the stadium.
He will be remembered for the heart he shared with those around him. He truly felt for everyone, and if you knew him - you knew this. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for the relationships he made. He will be missed dearly.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, 8:30 am at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fort Jefferson, Ohio.
