

James Samuel Jett age 100, of Greenville passed away August 4, 2025, at his home. Jim was born April 2, 1925, in Winchester, Kentucky, to the late Samuel & Margaret (Crawford) Jett. He moved to Greenville in the 1930’s. He was a heavy equipment operator during WWII serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater from 1943-1946. James was a hard worker and after the military he farmed, worked for International Harvester, and the Richmond State Hospital.
On January 8, 1949, he married Opal (Archey) Jett. His wife, parents, and sisters, Fannie DeJarnette, Faircie Clark, Ruby Kendrick, Dorothy Hand, Juanita Payne, Viola Beasley, Ethel Thompson, and Flossie Jett preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by his children, Douglas (Barbara) Jett of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, and Brenda Jett of Greenville; grandchildren, Douglas (Alyson) Jett Jr., of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Monica Jeff of Baltimore, Maryland; great granddaughter, Mia Jett; sister, Roberta Embry of Dayton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 8, 2025, at Bethel Long Wesleyan Church 255 Stingley Rd., Greenville, with Pastor Pamela Geise officiating. Burial will follow in Clemens Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Long Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 255 Stingley Rd., Greenville, OH 45331. Arrangements have been entrusted to Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville.
