Joan Swabb

Shirley Joan (Pitsenbarger) Swabb, age 89 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday October 6, 2026, at 4:30 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. Shirley was born August 5, 1937, in Covington, Ohio, the daughter of the late James Elmer and Iva Florance (Sowers) Pitsenbarger.

Shirley loved to cook, collect turtles, angels, and spending time with her family.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert H. Swabb; her sons, Jeffrey Smith, and Richard Grimes, sisters, Mary Connell, Evelyn Lavey, Edie Yahne, and Norma Trent; and her brother, Gene Pitsenbarger.

Shirley is survived by her children, Kay Weaver, Janell Grimes, Robert Smith, and David Grimes; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; her siblings Bill Pitsenbarger, and Alice Sanders; her foster brother, Eugene Metler; and niece Barbara Clark.

The family will receive friends on Monday October 12, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Gettysburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund.
