Mark W. Wagner

January 13, 1941November 29, 2020

Mark Willard Wagner, age 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 in Broadview Heights, Ohio where he had resided for several years after a lengthy illness. Mark was born on January 13, 1941 in Greenville, Ohio. He was the loving son of Mark Willard Wagner Sr. and Eva Eloise (Eikenberry) Wagner. Mark graduated from Greenville High School and attended Manchester College. A member of the Church of the Brethren, he was in the Brethren Volunteer Service from 1963-1965 in the College of Agriculture at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. There he met and married the late Vivian Gail McSwain of Albemarle, North Carolina on December 27, 1964. Mark and Vivian came back to his beloved family farm where he farmed for the next several decades.

Mark was joyful and saw the humor in everything. He loved to laugh and was not afraid to get people laughing at his own expense. He was an entertaining Euchre player, loved farming and being outdoors, collecting tractors, traveling, and, most especially, enjoying his grandchildren.

Mark is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kristin Wagner Sweeney and Peter Henry Sweeney of Shaker Heights, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Wagner Biglow, M.D., and Michael Kenneth Biglow, Sr., of Brecksville, Ohio; grandsons Wyatt Henry Sweeney, John “Jack” Mark Sweeney, Michael Kenneth Biglow, Jr., and granddaughter Allison Grace Biglow; brother and sister-in-law, Gary Lynn Wagner and Dianna Kay Wagner of Greenville Ohio; sisters-in-law Janice McSwain Simmons of Hickory, North Carolina and Mary Margaret McSwain of Wilmington, North Carolina; and several nieces and a nephew. A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday July 24, 2021 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday from 2:00 PM until time of the services in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greenville Public Library or the Darke County Park District would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Kristin, Kim and Family,
I am so very sorry to hear about your dad's passing. I enjoyed visiting the farm and talking with him whenever he came to visit Cleveland. He always made me smile with his good-natured sense of humor and his sincere demeanor. I know how much he loved his grandkids, and I am honored to have witnessed that. He also doted on you girls, and you were so good to him, especially as his health deteriorated in recent years. I am sending you all a giant hug, and Loren & I will be making a donation to the library in his name. May God hold you and keep you in this time of sorrow.
Much love, Jeannie
