Neal Allen Schmidt

Neal A. Schmidt, age 72, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026, at The Village Green Health Campus in Greenville. Neal was born on December 1, 1953, to the late Cornelius and Carolyn (Houpt) Schmidt.

Neal is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lauren (Buller) Schmidt; his sons, Dustin (Eve) Schmidt and Jason Schmidt; his granddaughters, Aubrey and Dahlia Schmidt; his sisters, Sharon (Jay) Noffsinger and Malinda (Hugh) Linebaugh as well as several nieces, great nieces and great nephews, extended family members, especially Jeff and Dee Schmidt and friends.

Neal was a 1972 graduate of Ansonia High School. After high school, Neal received an Associate Degree in AgriBusiness. He worked as a grain inspector and elevator superintendent at Wayne Feeds/Continental Grain/Cargill outside of Arcanum. Over the years Neal served on the Ansonia Village Council, the Ansonia Jaycee’s and was a part of the “Over the Hill Gang” at the Darke County Parks, where he served as a volunteer. It wasn’t uncommon to find him in the sugar shack or helping to bake bread in the outdoor oven during Prairie Days. He also assisted in the building of the bower at Prairie Ridge and the blacksmith shop at Shawnee Prairie. Neal will be remembered for his love for his family, especially his granddaughters, who held a special place in his heart.

Neal’s family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff at The Village Green for their care, compassion, and friendship over these past several years. We are grateful to the nurses, aides, and staff of EverHeart Hospice for their care and support during these final months.
