Phylis Hiatt

October 27, 1940March 17, 2021

Phylis Elaine (Bailey) Hiatt, age 80 of Palestine, Ohio passed away peacefully at Rest Haven Nursing and Rehab Center in Greenville, Ohio on Wednesday, March 17, 2021. She was born October 27, 1940 to Lawrence and Edna Mae (Repogle) Bailey in Greensfork, Indiana.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard E. Hiatt of Palestine, whom she married December 17, 1960: Sons, Daren (Jeanelle) Hiatt of Union City, Ohio and Chris (Tonya) Hiatt of Palestine: Sister Beverly (Dan) Wilson of Palestine: Brothers James (Betty) Bailey of Sumpterville, Florida and Clif ( Diane) Bailey of Williamsburg, Indiana: Grandchildren, Darick (Joanna) Hiatt of Anna, Ohio; Megan (Travis) Frame of Williamsburg, Indiana; and Jared and Ross Greenwell of Palestine. She loved her parents, and spending time with them. She made sure that Daren and Chris had many opportunities to share in that love, as they would go to grandpa and grandmas farm on a regular basis growing up. The void that was left in their passing was filled with time spent with her own children and grandchildren. Elaine retired from Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana and enjoyed staying in touch with those friends she made there. After retirement, she enjoyed sewing, and taking part in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She and Richard rarely missed an opportunity to watch Darick and Megan as they grew up. The grandkids regularly spend weekends in Palestine, enjoying Elaine’s cooking and all that grandparents have to offer.

As the grandkids got older, Elaine and Richard would not miss many of the activities that the kids participated in. Dance, Sports, 4-H, and FFA kept them going all over the area. Pictures of all their activities filled the refrigerator door.

Holidays and family were very important to Elaine. She tried her best to attend family reunions, and share stories of all the family past and present. She tried very hard to keep Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Day meals a tradition. She loved to sew, and shared that love with others, by helping with projects, making baby blankets and other interesting things. She will be missed beyond words.

Services for Elaine are to be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Care. Arrangements entrusted to Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville.
