
Joan, 92, passed from this life on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at 8:15 AM to her heavenly home at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. Joan was born to Herbert and Hilda Dawson on May 25, 1931, in Rawlings, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wendell Bohrer, a marriage of 66 years. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Homer, Bruce, Paul, and Millard. She is survived by one brother, Boyd Dawson, of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania. She has been a faithful servant of the Church of the Brethren and accompanied her husband, Paster and Minister Wendell Bohrer, as well as being a devoted wife and mother of four children: Joseph Bohrer (Tammy Bohrer), Matthew Bohrer (Noelle Dulabaum-Bohrer), Bradley Bohrer (Bonnie Bohrer - Deceased), and Deborah Wright (Andrew Wright). She also leaves 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well.
Joan was educated at Allegheny High School in Cumberland, Maryland, Wester Virginia University, and Penn State University. Additionally, she served her church in many areas of ministry through teaching Sunday school, being a deacon secretary, and working with the children’s departments for Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren. Joan served five churches alongside her husband and seven as interim following his retirement. She was a member of the Trustee Board for five years at Timber Crest Home in North Manchester, Indiana. She was employed for seven years as a Clinic Supervisor for Physicians and Patients in Middlebury, Indiana. She was the Assistant Administrator for two years at the Scalp Level Retirement Home in Windber, Pennsylvania. Additionally, she has served as President of the Palms Auxiliary at the Palms located in Sebring, Florida. Wendell and Joan traveled extensively, leading tours and cruises throughout the world, and together, they helped organize and led tours for Leisure Acres and the Sebring Church of the Brethren.
The family is making arrangements for a Celebration of Life, which will be announced. Please plan on joining friends and family to rejoice in a life well lived. Arrangements have been entrusted to Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.
