

Richard Turner Mote, age 84, of Union City, Indiana and Greenville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday evening, September 16, 2025 at his family home on Boundary Pike surrounded by his family. He was born July 2, 1941 in Union City, son of the late Omer and Harriet Mote.
Richard is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Joan Schmidt Mote; three children and their spouses, M. Keith and Gia Mote, Miranda Mote and Seth Carter, and Molly and Matt Kennicutt; and four grandchildren, Tennessee Wallick, Ruth Wallick, Christian Mote, and Gigi Mote; his sisters and brothers, Margaret Mote, Omer (Pete) Mote, Jim Mote, Mary Ann Rickert, and Nancy Wright.
Richard graduated from Purdue University in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, moved to Greenville, Ohio in 1971, established Mote and Associates in 1972 as a civil engineering and surveying firm serving Indiana and Ohio, retiring in 2000. After retirement, he lived and farmed Mote family land with his siblings and continued to survey in Indiana until August 2025. Richard completed and recorded over 5,500 surveys in his lifetime. He was a meticulous builder, engineer, and surveyor, wholly dedicated to his family and a servant to his church and communities.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 201 South Broadway, in Greenville, Ohio. Following the service, lunch will be served for all at the Elks Club, 214 W. 3rd Street.
