

Born June 5, 1948, she was the first of six children of Thomas Martin Harless and Hazel Naomi (Anthony) Harless.
She was preceded in death by Richard K. Halley, her husband of 59 years; her parents; and her sister, Sharon Harless.
Susi received her Associate Degree from Edison State Community College; a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Organizational Management from Bluffton University; and a Master of Arts in Vedic Science and a Master of Science in Finance from Maharishi International University (MIU). She was beginning a PhD program at MIU this past fall.
In 1971, she studied with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to become a certified Transcendental Meditation Teacher.
Susi’s career also included marketing for the Brethren Retirement Community, working as Director of Oakley House Assisted Living, and serving the Greenville Public Library for over two decades, the last seven as Executive Director.
A connoisseur of books, film, theater and art, she was a lifelong learner who enjoyed a variety of topics from quantum physics to philosophy to astrology. Susi also shared much of her own creativity through writing, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
As the beloved mother, grandmother and matriarch of a large family, she cherished and supported every individual and celebrated events and milestones through her weekly family emails. She always made time for friends and family and loved visiting, laughing, and having a little treat together.
Susi’s gentle heart and generous spirit touched many lives; she will be remembered above all else for her kindness. She was the embodiment of unconditional love.
Susi is survived by daughters Sylvia DeRieux (Jeff) of Eugene, OR; Shelah Miller (Joe) of Tipp City, OH; Sarah Halley-Murray (Colin) of London, England; Cynthia Rutherford (Keith) of Powell, OH; and Connie Vaughn of Cincinnati, OH; sons Nathan Halley (Mav Carrasquilla) of Fairfield, IA; John Halley of Greenville; and Michael Halley (Sothavy Shreck) of Fairfield, IA; sisters Rebecca Rosen and Barbara Gotshall; brothers John Harless and Jimmy Harless; uncle Delbert Anthony; and her beloved 15 grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
Interment of ashes, along with her late husband Richard, will take place at a later date at Greenville Union Cemetery.
An open house Celebration of Life for both Susi and Richard will be held on Thursday, January 8, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Zechar-Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, Ohio.
