Wanda Lois Hounshell, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant, Monroe, OH. The loving wife, mother, and grandmother was born in Middletown, OH on May 3, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Homer and Mattie (Brown) Sorrell. Wanda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, serving as an elder and in the Women’s Association. She also enjoyed being an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Wanda and her husband, Arthur were married for 54 years. They enjoyed camping, traveling, and especially spending time with their family. Wanda made her home a warm and inviting place for family gatherings. She was known for lemon jello cake, prune cake and her potato salad. She made sure no one ever left the Hounshell home hungry! Wanda spent many hours in lawn chairs and theatre chairs watching her grandchildren’s sporting and musical events. She had a beautiful voice, loved to sing, and sang until the very end. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Hounshell, Jr., her brother, John Sorrell and son-in-law, Rick Dill.
She is survived by her children: Becky Dill of Noblesville, IN, Greg Hounshell (Gail) of Cincinnati, OH, Jenni Hensler (Mark) of Fairfield Twp, OH, and Barry Hounshell (Kelly) of Greenville, OH; her siblings: Lavonne Henderson (Richard), Pat Wallace (Mark) and Dale Sorrell (Sue); sister-in-law Ann Marcy (Lynn), 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Friends may call on the family Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at the First Presbyterian Church, 114 E 4th St, Greenville, OH from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Andy Gilman presiding. Burial will take place at Greenville Union Cemetery, Greenville, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
