She was born Alice Suzanne Molnar on March 11, 1924 in New Brunswick, NJ, a daughter of Andrew and Susanna Molnar. Her parents were immigrants from Germany and Austria-Hungary.
Alice was a registered nurse who served as a Lieutenant (JG) in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during the Korean War. She met her husband, then a Marine Lieutenant, at Camp LeJeune, NC in the early 1950’s. After their tours of duty ended, Alice’s husband returned to graduate school to pursue a doctorate in economics while Alice devoted her time to motherhood.
The Roberts family moved to Greenville, SC in 1969 when Dr. Roberts joined the Furman University faculty. They became active members of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Alice was predeceased by her older sister, Margaret, her son, Eric, her daughter Rebecca Folkers, and granddaughter, Hannah Folkers. Survivors are: son, David and his wife, RayLee; and son, Mark, and his wife, Sue; as well as four grandchildren: Nathaniel, Sophie, Tristan, and Alice.
A brief service of entombment will be at 11 a.m., April 5th, 2024 at CM Gaffney Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC.
