A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. A service to celebrate Ann’s life will occur at 2:30 PM, followed by a committal service in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Ann’s laugh was contagious, and she had the most beautiful smile and crystal blue eyes. She took pride in how she dressed; everything had to match from clothes to shoes, handbag and jewelry. She never met a stranger and was the life of the party.
For almost 70 years she was a devoted and highly active member of Piedmont Park Baptist Church, where she served in many roles including Sunday school teacher, Bible school volunteer, children’s church assistant, and choir member.
She was an exceptionally talented and avid bowler, traveling the country to tournaments with her bowling team, where she won several tournaments with perfect scores.
Gardening came naturally to Ann and she took great pride in her yard. She was known for her green thumb and could root a dead stick to life.
When her children were young, she served as PTA president at Paris Elementary School, and continued to serve many years in the PTA.
She never missed her boys’ sporting events and was the loudest supporter in the stands.
Ann’s family was the most important thing to her. She was so proud of her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always kept them in her prayers.
Prior to having children, she worked at the Pentagon in Washington, DC for the Department of the US Navy. She also worked at Stone Manufacturing in Greenville, SC for several years.
Ann was the last living of six siblings. She is survived by her sons, Glenn Paul Wampole, Sr. (Libby), Terry Wilson Wampole (Judy), William Garry Wampole (Teresa) and David Brent Wampole (Harriett); grandchildren, Glenn Paul Wampole, Jr., Cayce Wampole Adcock, Whitney Wampole Ganser, Heather Wampole Hand, Bridget Wampole Thompson, Kathryn Wampole, Millie Wampole Fitch, Max Wampole, and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, William C. “Bill” Wampole, her husband of 8 years, Charles Wesley Young, daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jean Wampole, granddaughter Ashley Wampole, and grandsons, Brian Wampole and Brad Wampole.
