
Born in Saluda County, SC, to the late Tillman Benjamin and Connie Ridgell Pou, Anne was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. During WWII she took flying lessons in Laurens with the goal of joining the brave women who ferried planes during the war. She advanced to the point of soloing before her brothers convinced her that the family had already contributed enough to the war effort. She was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Mahon T. “Mac” Smith, III and his wife the Reverend Suzanne Hilton Smith of Charlottesville, VA; a daughter, Mary Smith Ford and her husband Mike Ford of Charleston, SC; three sisters, Judy Bray, Lynette Walker and Eloise McGee; five grandchildren, Matthew Hilton Smith and his wife Heather Smith, Emily Smith DesChamps and her husband David DesChamps, Collin Fleming, Mary Abigail Speights and her husband Paul Hamilton Speights, Jr., and Caleb Gibson; and three great-grandchildren, Claire DesChamps, Charlotte Ellis Speights and Paul Hamilton Speights, III.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Woodlawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Suzanne Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, at The Mackey Mortuary.
