Mrs. Kinard was my 3rd grade teacher at Royall Elementary School in a Florence, SC in 1960-61, her second year of teaching. I remember her so well. Even though at the beginning of her career, her students and their well being and accomplishments were her first priority. I can say without reservation that she was the best teacher I had. The last time I saw her was at a wedding in Florence over 30 years ago. I was so pleased she remembered me for I had not seen her since my family moved from Florence in the mid 1960’s. I am saddened by her death. But, I know she led a full life and touched the heart and soul of all students over the years. I know I am a better person for having had Mrs. Kinard in my life.

Bill, Ann and Jean,
I know this is such a difficult time for you since you also lost your dad this year. I remember Barbara before she married into the Blocker family because we spent many holidays in Salley and Springfield. She was a beautiful person inside and out.
Over the years I would also see her and Billy at Winthrop reunions and recently all of you were with her at Margaret’s service.
I know fond memories are many for you. Find comfort in them and in knowing, as the old hymn says, she is “safe in the arms of Jesus.”
With love,
Johnsie

I would like to extend sincere condolences to Barbara Kinard’s family.

I worked with Barbara for many years at Briggs Elementary School in Florence. She was a strong teacher and was devoted to her students. She set high standards for her students and for herself. She was a consistent example of professionalism for other teachers . I am proud to say that we were colleagues and friends and I join her family in celebrating her life.
