

Barbara Lou Snipes,89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior early morning on December 17, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving children at Greer Memorial Hospital in Greer SC.
Born in Anderson SC, she was the daughter of the late Claude Mitchell Sumpter and Lilly Olabell Hamby of Anderson SC. She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart. She was of the Episcopalian faith. Before the Pandemic she attended Services at Saint James Episcopal Church in Greenville SC.
Barbara was a successful professional photographer for many years specializing in family and children’s portraits. She received her education in the mid 1950’s at Bob Jones University in cinema and portrait photography living on campus with her family. She also, attended many workshops in photography and lighting throughout the United States in her career. Years before the Covid pandemic, she attended Ollie classes at Furman University, Bridge at St. James Episcopal Church, Senior Action Center in Greenville South Carolina and attended luncheons with her friends at Taylors First Baptist Church. Her favorite interest was reading, studying her Bible, Day trips with her children, cooking, musical concerts at Furman, gardening in her yard, playing bingo and working sudoku puzzles. She loved playing bridge with her best friends the late Rita Bigalke of Greenville SC and the late John and Isle Holiday of Travelers Rest SC. She love to cook dinners for family gatherings. She was the best cook and made everything from scratch as, she would tell us in her earlier years “you didn’t have pre-mixed food.” She was a beautiful person inside and out touching many with her warmth, patience, love and devotion for her family, friends, neighbors and charities. She was the best mom and will be deeply missed.
Her memory will always be cherished in the hearts of her surviving children Judy Horton Stone husband Ricky of Simpsonville SC, Cecil E Snipes,Jr wife Yolanda Ceglia-Snipes of Greenville SC and Marsha Roseberry husband Robert of Greenville SC.
Hours before her passing, her precious grandchildren expressed their love over the phone as, her children held the phone to her ears. In a gentle way, she responded by whispering to them “I love You “ with a smile. Her surviving grandchildren are Christopher Roseberry wife Kelly of Taylor’s SC, Mathew Horton wife Angela of Salt Lake City Utah, Teresa Martin husband Will of Cottageville SC, Brian E. Snipes of Oregon and Phillip Stone of Harleyville, SC.
Her 9 surviving precious great grandchildren are Tyler Roseberry of Taylor’s SC, Sierra Snipes of Ohio, Michael Sams of Cottageville SC, Emmie Martin, Barbara Martin and Abigail Martin all of Cottageville SC, Svetlana Roseberry of Taylor’s SC, Lyra Horton of Salt lake city Utah and Stella Horton of Salt Lake City Utah.
She had many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barbara was a devoted wife of 50 years to the late Cecil Eugene Snipes, Sr of Greenville SC and a devoted mother to her son the late Phillip Mitchell Snipes of Greenville SC. Also her late siblings, Mary Solsbee of Anderson SC, Francis Whitten White of Anderson SC, Ruby Parks of Anderson SC and Claude Sumpter, Jr. of SC.
There will be a Graveside service held on Thursday 12/23/21 at 3:00 at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Greenville SC. The graveside service will be performed by the Rev. Stephen Rhoades of St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville SC
